Do I need postpartum doula?

Postpartum Doula Nashville

There is so much focus on the birth of a baby that often times what comes next isn't even thought about until the "We are alone with this baby. What now?" feeling kicks in. That's exactly why a postpartum doula is great and here's a few reasons why new families hire postpartum doulas.

1. Education. Postpartum doulas help new parents with eduction on everything from baby feeding to bathing the baby to how to general life with a baby. So often parents have very little precious newborn experience so a postpartum is great for teaching all the little (and big!) things!

2. Sleep. During pregnancy you likely had people tell you "Sleep now because you won't for the next 18 years!" That's a bit of an exaggeration but sleep can be hard to come by in the first few months with a newborn. Having a postpartum doula means daytime naps as needed and overnight care means at least a few multi-hour stretches of sleep if not a solid eight hours!

3. Housework. A postpartum doula will assist with light housework. Laundry, dishes, meal prep, other tasks that help lighten the load on the household so that the parents can focus on being parents. A postpartum doula will help the home run smoothly while everyone is snuggling the baby and adjusting to the larger family!

4. Mental calmness. It has been proven that having a trusted postpartum doula decreases postpartum depression, anxiety, and baby blues. Talk therapy is a great tool for increasing mental clarity and comfort during your postpartum period. A postpartum doula can sit with you, provide companionship and nonjudgmental support on your feelings and parenting decision. You can say things to your doula that you may not be comfortable telling a friend or family member.

If you are looking for postpartum support the Bosom Buddy team would love to chat. Our mission is to provide nonjudgmental support for all parenting decision and families.
