Tasty Tuesday: Meatballs

Meatballs are one of my favorite go-to crowd pleasers. I make them in the morning and slow cook them in sauce all day for a delicious, perfectly blended meatball. They are great on spaghetti, a sandwich, or alone! I recommend a nice green salad and a baguette with oil for dipping to complete your meal!

Ingredients:

  • 1-1.5 pounds of ground beef

  • 1-1.5 pounds of sausage

  • 1 medium onion chopped in fairly small pieces

  • ¼ cup of bread crumbs

  • ¼ cup of grated parmesan cheese

  • 2-3 gloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 egg

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Italian seasoning blend or make your own with oregano and basil

  • Sauce, lots of sauce! I use 4-6 cups (Homemade or from a jar. Any marinara works!)

Preheat the oven to 350.

Put the raw hamburger and sausage in a large bowl. Add the onion, bread crumbs, grated parmesan, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and seasoning. Translation- dump everything except the sauce into one large bowl then mix it up. (I love that there is not a ton of dishes to clean after making this meal!) Mix thoroughly with your hands. I actually wear food prep gloves for this part because the feeling on my hands grosses me out!

Once mixed rolls into balls and place on a foil lined cookie sheet. I like to make the balls 2-3 inches each. You will end up with a ton of meatballs. (You can freeze them at this stage if you want to save some for the next time!) Cook in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and place on a paper towel lined plate to get some excess grease off.

Once your meatballs have drained then place them in a crock pot and cover with sauce. Give them a stir and cover. Cook on low all day and serve for your evening meal (supper or dinner depending on where you are from!) Add a little grated parmesan for an extra touch! Enjoy!
